Secondary Abuse

What is it? Secondary abuse, also known as secondary victimization, refers to the harm or mistreatment that occurs when individuals, such as friends, family members, or professionals, respond to a victim of abuse in a way that further exacerbates their trauma. This can include blaming, disbelieving, or minimizing the victim’s experiences, which can cause additional emotional distress and hinder the healing the process.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME WILL NEVER CEASE BEING WRONG.

Ever since this horror has begun I have been the subject of severe harassment by Joe’s family and friends. What I have endured is horrific. Embarrassing. Traumatic. Assaulting.

It is not ok. I WILL NOT BE QUIET ABOUT IT.

People will say, but what about what happened to Joe?

Joe may be considered the “victim” for now, but I believe that is going to change. He was, most definitely, a perpetrator. And the true victims are living in the aftermath.
